About the CCC

The Play Professors Cambridgeshire Chess Championship (commonly known as the CCC) was formed in 2013 by a small group of teachers and parents to give children the chance to play regular competitive chess.

We are a non-profit organisation run by volunteers, whose aim is to bring together children and grown-ups from all over the county and provide free chess competition for everyone. We are able to operate thanks to generous sponsorship from Play Professors, providers of play-based learning environments for children.

Just six schools took part in the first season, doubling the following year. We peaked at 30 teams in the pre-COVID days and we always keen to welcome new entries. For the 2024-25 season, we will have 36 teams and the league will be split into two divisions.
